Hiking to Agitis River gorge

The gorge of the river Aggitis is a narrow valley characterized by impressive concrete stonewalls rising from either side of the river. It begins from Symvoli village in the Serres region and ends at Angista village. It was most likely formed by a violent geological rearrangement that split the earth in two allowing water from Prasiada lake to flow through. The 15 meter long ravine seeps deep into the riverbed and encloses beautiful meadows, patches of wild lavender, various natural vegetation and crystal blue springs. But be aware whilst traversing this mystical canyon, as ancient Greeks once believed that it held the entrance to the underworld.

Tip: Book a botanologist that will guide you and learn everything about the unique flowers and herbs of the hiking route of the gorge.
